About Movement & Mind Yoga Solihull

If you feel you are seeking something that you can't explain, your path to finding that 'something' begins here.

– Vīrabhāva

WHAT TO EXPECT?

In each class, you'll be reverently guided through a journey to discover your own essence nature, that can bring about inner-peace and contentment.

A typical class consists of a short grounding practice, preparing us for embodiment in the form of yoga āsana, which is sometimes gentle and flowing, other times fiery and intense.

We finish with a short talk on Tantrik philosophy (tools for transformation), leading into a guided meditation.

Classes are most suited to those who wish to explore the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual & philosophical aspects of yoga that are grounded in tradition.

WHAT STYLE OF YOGA IS TAUGHT?

Classes consist of both traditional & modern aspects yoga. In other words - Yoga as it was traditionally taught, including contemplation, meditation, mantra, knowledge informed by classical Tantra. As well as modern postural yoga (the part that most people think of as yoga today).

TANTRA IS PROBABLY NOT WHAT YOU THINK!

Believe it or not, most modern yoga has it's roots in classical Tantra (the spiritual tradition that flourished in India 1,200 to 1,400 years ago)

This is not to be confused with modern day 'Neo tantra' commonly taught in the West, which explores being intimate with a partner. Movement & Mind teaches classical Tantra, also called Trika Śaivism, or nondual Śaiva Tantra.

The goal in Tantra is mukti (liberation / enlightenment).

Don't let all of these mystical sounding words put you off. Here are some of the practices, most of which will be familiar, even if you don't recognise the name.

Āsana (embodiment practices and poses)
Pranayama (breath control)
Japa (repetition of mantra)
Mudras (symbolic gestures or seal)
Kriyas (energy of action)
Jnana (knowledge through study of scripture)
Bhāvanā (creative contemplation, working with feelings, states and attitudes)
Atma Vichara (self enquiry)
Dhyāna (meditation)
Dhāraṇā (Concentration, focus)
