I’m now going to discuss the benefits in more detail here, relating to each part of the exercise

1. The inhale
2. The retention
3. The exhale
4. The retention

Details and benefits of Sama Vritti

1. The inhalation – Puraka

On the inhalation, prana permeates every cell of the body. The physical benefits are:

  • Concentrated inhalation helps to improve lung capacity
  • Brings vitality to your cells
  • Puraka (a deep rich inhalation) increases ones awareness.

2. The retention after the inhalation – Antar Kumbhaka

As we practice holding the breath and focus on equal breathe holds;

  • Life force energy moves up the body, awakening Kundalini
  • Our prana (life force energy) becomes clear and calm
  • Equally distribution of energy to all organs of the body

3. The exhalation – Rechaka

  • Can help release toxins from the body
  • Can be beneficial for the immune system
  • The exhale can be calming and soothing

4. The retention after the exhalation – Bahya Kumbhaka

  • Experiencing inner peace and silence
  • As Prana moves up from the Muladhara (base of the spine) to the brain, Muladhara becomes calms and we loose the sense of attachment from the material world.

I hope you too can experience the benefits of Sama Vritii
