Recommended Reading: How to Know God. The Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali

Reading Time: 2 minutes

It is believed the Indian sage Patanjali lived around the second century BCE. If you have even a small interest in yoga I’m sure you will have heard quotes from the Yoga Sutras by Patanjali – a very famous and significant collection of 196 sutras (aphorisms).

I’ve read this book from cover to cover many times. It’s a small book, small enough to fit inside a coat pocket, so it’s been on many journeys with me. I especially enjoy sitting on the train and finding words of wisdom as I flick through the pages. It’s one of those books that you can pick up and turn to a random page and words seem to jump out and explain something that seems very relevant to that moment.

Don’t let the title mislead you, you don’t have to believe in God or be religious to enjoy these teachings, but if you want to get to the true meaning of what Yoga is and how to achieve it, this is the book.

“A rendering , at once lively and profoundly instructive, of a world classic which . . . remains as vividly topical, as realistically to the point, as when it first saw the light”  Aldous Huxley.
